Best Trucking Companies To Invest In Right Now

In 1905, Charles Henry Robinson spotted a unique opportunity.

After moving west with his family to the North Dakota town of Grand Forks, he soon realized that settlers were in need of supplies. He founded a transportation company with the goal of delivering perishable products to consumers before they spoiled -- a difficult challenge in the horse-and-buggy days.

The company Robinson founded changed with the times, taking advantage of historic advances in the transportation industry. These advances included the first refrigerated truck (without ice) in 1939, the construction of the interstate highway system beginning in 1945, and the deregulation of the trucking industry in 1980.

Deregulation allowed the company freedom in setting its own rates. It also freed up the types of cargo that could be carried and the geographical areas in which the company could operate.

As it's known today, C.H. Robinson (Nasdaq: CHRW) has again changed with the times.

After the bedroom, the kitchen is probably the place where we spend the most time awake in our homes with small cap kitchen stocks Caesarstone Sdot-Yam Ltd (NASDAQ: CSTE) and American Woodmark Corporation (NASDAQ: AMWD) along with diversified midcap Fortune Brands Home & Security Inc (NYSE: FBHS) all putting in a good performance. After all, any sort of housing recovery with more new homes being sold willhelp kitchen stocks and so will increased sales of older or foreclosed homes that need to have their kitchens remodeled. But which is the better kitchen stock for investors? Here iscloser look at all three:

Right now I know that silver miners like Pan American Silver (PAAS) and Coeur Mining (CDE) are very cheap on an asset basis. I know that oil and gas producers like Swift Energy (SFY) and WPX Energy (WPX) are priced as if no one will ever use the stuff again. I know that small banks like Cape Bancorp (CBNJ) and Essa Bancorp (ESSA) are crazy-cheap — and if the world does not end, those stocks will be a lot higher in a few years.

Best Communications Equipment Stocks To Invest In Right Now: Lennar Corp.(LEN)

According to the company's CEO, Stuart Miller, "The homebuilding business is beginning to revert to normal, and that's a positive for the U.S. economy in general, which is in turn good for sustained recovery in the housing market. Overall demand has been improving and we've seen a consistent sales pace at improving prices."

LEN's contract backlog, which is an indicator of future sales, rose by a whopping 79% on a YoY basis. Its average selling price of delivered homes also increased to $258,000 from last year's $247,000.

Lennar (LEN) recently acquired 287 acres of residential land from Covington Capital in San Antonio. This land will support 800 homes and sales will begin in mid-2014. These home sites will be available in three communities, Potranco Run, the Heights of Cibolo, and Alamo Ranch. Depending on the community, homes will be available in the $100,000 to $200,000 price range. This initiative will enhance its market presence in San Antonio, leading towards higher home sales for the company, which will increase from merely $3.49 billion in 2012 to $7.01 billion in 2014 Lennar purchased low-cost land during the downturn of the U.S. economy. With the growing demand for residential homes, the company will now monetize it in the coming quarters. Further, the company is implementing common floor plans for constructing homes, which will also reduce its cost. The company is expecting to construct 18,500 homes this year, which is up 35% year-over-year. The company will take advantage of low-cost land purchased, and its cost-initiative methods, to increase its operating profits. Consensus of Analyst expects Earnings Per Share to increase from $2.5 in 2014 to $3.25 in 2015. Lennar competitor, PulteGroup (PHM)), is also adopting cost reduction strategies to provide low-cost homes. The company reduced construction cost 10% by working directly with suppliers. To reduce construction cost further, the company is adopting a technique of value engineering and commonly managed floor plans. This will systematically add value to its homes while reducing the cost.

That news was followed up last month by the third-largest builder, Lennar (NYSE: LEN  ) , which reported that its quarterly deliveries shot up by 39% on a year-over-year basis.

Advisors' Opinion:

Some of the criteria for inclusion into this index are that units must have a market capitalization of at least $500 million and trade on the New York Stock Exchange or the Nasdaq. Component partnerships will have also maintained or grown distributions quarter-over-quarter for at least one of the trailing two quarters, and they must have a policy intended to consistently maintain or increase distributions over time (i.e., no variable-distribution MLPs).

Because this is an equal-weighted, periodically rebalanced index, top holdings show the MLPs that have outperformed the overall index, while the biggest losers will be found at the bottom of the portfolio. Presently, Crosstex Energy (Nasdaq: XTEX) comprises 6.4 percent of the overall index, reflecting its nearly 30 percent gain in October. Regency Energy Partners (NYSE: RGP) has been the laggard of the group (albeit just barely), falling to 4.84 percent of the overall index makeup.

The total market cap of the ANGI is $190 billion, and the one-, three- and five-year total returns are 29 percent, 52 percent and 249 percent. The index yield is 6 percent.

While the data is by no means conclusive, it is a risk that bears watching. A variety of companies are drilling these disposal wells, with master limited partnerships like Crosstex Energy (NASDAQ: XTEX  ) being one of the many to watch. The company owns an interest in seven disposal wells in Ohio and West Virginia with another well coming on line soon. These wells are designed to simply dispose of the wastewater. Even if the wells prove not to be the cause, the business of owning disposal wells could be tougher to grow because of theperceivedrisk.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Robert Rapier]

This question really piqued my interest. Intuitively, I felt like it was probably true, but I didn’t want to answer the question until I could dig into it a bit more. I thought it would be interesting to have a look at the historical performance of a few publicly-traded general partners versus their limited partner to find out if that hypothesis is supported.

Consider Kinder Morgan Energy Partners (NYSE: KMP) and its general partner Kinder Morgan  (NYSE: KMI). Over the past year, KMI did indeed outperform KMP, but if we track performance back to the IPO of KMI on Feb. 10, 2011 — KMP outperformed KMI during significant time periods. But both generally tracked each other quite closely in terms of returns.

Next consider Energy Transfer Partners (NYSE: ETP) and Energy Transfer Equity (NYSE: ETE), which owns the general partner and went public in 2006. ETE has significantly outperformed ETP since its IPO, particularly over the past four years:

But it is important to note that ETE also has interests in Sunoco Logistics Partners (NYSE: SXL) and Regency Energy Partners (NYSE: RGP).

  • [By Aimee Duffy]

Sunoco Logistics Partners is an MLP that many Fools have gotten to know better over the past year, particularly those that hold units of Energy Transfer Partners (NYSE: ETP  ) . Energy Transfer picked up a significant stake in SXL when it acquired Sunoco last year, including 32.4% of SXL's limited partner units, as well as its general partner stake and incentive distribution rights. Sunoco Logistics has a strong presence in the Northeast, but it is the partnership's pipeline in West Texas that has investor's attention lately. SXL is reversing the flow of its Permian Express pipeline to carry crude from the Permian Basin out to Houston. It is slated to begin delivering 90,000 barrels per day sometime in the second quarter of this year.

The company was formerly known as Bell Atlantic Corporation and changed its name to Verizon Communications Inc. in June 2000. Verizon Communications Inc. was founded in 1983 and is based in New York, New York.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Jessica Alling]

    The ugly
AT&T (NYSE: T  ) is also in the dumps this morning after announcing earnings after the bell yesterday. The wireless carrier is down 6.01% so far in trading, the most in almost three years. The company had gained 16% so far this year, but first-quarter results showed a loss of wireless market share to rival Verizon (NYSE: VZ  ) . AT&T added 269,000 new subscribers to its wireless services in the first three months of this year, but the growth was mainly due to new tablet users -- the company actually lost high-paying phone users during that time period. Verizon had substantial growth during the first quarter, with new wireless phone customers driving growth.

  • [By Anders Bylund]

Meanwhile, AT&T (NYSE: T  ) is today's strongest performer on the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI  ) , while archrival Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ  ) is one of the weakest -- on no particularly groundbreaking news in either case.
