Treasury 10-year note yields reached a three-month high after a report showed durable-goods orders rose in November more than forecast, boosting the case for the Federal Reserve to slow bond-buying further.
U.S. government securities fell for a second day. The Federal Open Market Committee said after its Dec. 17-18 policy meeting it will cut its monthly asset purchases by $10 billion to $75 billion starting in January. Treasuries reached the cheapest level relative to stocks in 3 1/2 years Monday.
“The durable goods number was strong, a good indication that the economies contributors to growth are expanding,” said Adrian Miller, director of fixed-income strategies at GMP Securities. “One month doesn't make a trend, but it's something the market wanted to see and confirms what the Fed has been seeing that gave confidence for their taper.”

It can be pretty handy to evaluate the entire industry on how efficiently it's replacing reserves, but reserve replacement costs can be more effective in evaluating individual companies. The lower the costs, the better it is. According to Ernst & Young, the most effective company at controlling reserve replacement costs is private companyAntero Resources, with a three-year average reserve replacement cost of about $2.88 per barrel of oil equivalent. Antero, and four of the other top five companies on Ernst & Young's list, are almost pure natural gas plays. If we've learned one thing over the past couple of years, it's that oil reserves and natural gas reserves are two totally different things when it comes to value. The five following companies have more than 50% liquids ontheirreserves and had the lowest reserve replacement costs for 2012.Sources: Ernst & Young and S&P Capital IQ; author's calculations.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Aimee Duffy]
The role of the barge can't be underestimated. Barge receipts increased more than two percentage points year over year, and this is a great place for investors to look for opportunity. Companies with maritime resources benefit from this trend, as well as growth in exports. Three such companies that are worth a look are:
Kirby Corporation (NYSE: KEX ) , which operates 30% of the coastal tank barges in the U.S. Oiltanking Partners (NYSE: OILT ) , which has storage capacity of 12.1 million barrels and six deepwater docks on the Houston Ship Channel Martin Midstream Partners (NASDAQ: MMLP ) , which operates a large fleet of inland barges and controls 31 marine terminalsThese companies won't be the only winners, but they are a good place to start your research.

Today, we're starting small with Martin Midstream Partners (MMLP), a $1.2 billion firm that transports and stores natural gas and sulfur. Shares of MMLP have had a stellar year in 2013, rallying more than 47% since the calendar flipped over to January -- and this stock's technicals point to even higher ground in the second half.
That's because MMLP is currently forming an ascending triangle pattern, a technical setup that's formed by horizontal resistance above shares at $46 and uptrending support to the downside. Basically, as MMLP bounces in between those two technical price levels, it's getting squeezed closer and closer to a breakout above that $46 resistance level. When that breakout happens, we've got a buy signal for shares.
Confirmation is going to be important to watch in MMLP. This stock has popped above $46 intraday in the past, only to fall back down to close within the pattern. Waiting for a close above $46 followed by a consecutive open above it greatly reduces the possibility of a bull trap in this stock.

The total market cap of the index is $328 billion, and its one-, three- and five-year total returns are 20 percent, 48 percent and 194 percent. The index yield is 6 percent.

This mega-trend is hardly news, and it can be played from all angles. One especially promising option: Martin Midstream Partners (MMLP).
This master limited partnershipcleans up, stores and transports gas — essentially collecting a “toll” on the gas that passes through its pipelines, then passing most of that toll along to shareholders per its MLP status. The current result of that setup: a mouth-watering 6.7% yield.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Roberto Pedone]
Another under-$10 name that's quickly moving within range of triggering a big breakout trade is Velti (VELT), which provides mobile marketing and advertising technology solutions that enable brands, advertising agencies, and mobile operators to implement interactive and measurable campaigns by communicating with and engaging consumers via their mobile devices. This stock has been destroyed by the bears so far in 2013, with shares off sharply by 91%.
If you take a look at the chart for Velti, you'll notice that this stock recently gapped down big from over $1 a share to 33 cents per share with monster downside volume. Following that gap down, shares of VELT have started to consolidate and move sideways between 33 cents per share on the downside and 44 cents per share on the upside. Shares of VELT are spiking sharply higher on Thursday above some near-term support at 35 cents per share. That move is pushing this stock within range of triggering a big breakout trade above the upper-end of its recent sideways trading chart pattern.
Market players should now look for long-biased trades in VELT if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance at 44 cents per share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 2.02 million shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then VELT could easily explode higher and potentially re-test its gap down day high from August at 66 cents per share.
Traders can look to buy VELT off weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support levels at 35 cents to 33 cents per share. One can also buy VELT off strength once it clears 44 cents per share with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.
