Hot Undervalued Stocks For 2015

Firearms enthusiasts have been investing in new guns at record rates this year. These ace shots should also consider investing in the stocks of the companies that make firearms, providing a different type of bang for their buck. Read on for more about the firearms industry and some publicly traded firearms stocks available to investors.

The firearms industry has some interesting investing dynamics you don't find anywhere else:

Many so-called socially responsible investors outright avoid owning gun stocks and sin stocks, which can make these stocks persistently undervalued. The firearms industry faces a perennial threat from gun control legislation, but this just leads to spikes in gun and ammo sales whenever there are talks or fear of gun control. The most recent talks have set off a surge of interest in buying guns. During the first quarter of this year, the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) saw a 46% increase in background checks for firearms purchases. Gun manufacturers face an existential threat in the futureif 3-D printing of guns ever takes off.

Let's take a look at some publicly traded stocks involved in firearms, one of which could be your ace stock.

I do believe as Wal-Mart gets hurt, the dollar stores will do a little better especially Dollar General (DG), but don overlook Dollar Tree (DLTR). Wall Street is worried about Costco (COST) but I believe it will actually outperform expectations. Costco seems to have figured out how to grow much faster than Wal-Mart and still provide affordable health insurance for most employees.

    Where growth will come from
One area that Newell Rubbermaid still has to tap fully is emerging markets. The company has done a good job of expanding overseas, with 17% annual growth in Latin America. But with barely a quarter of its sales coming from outside the U.S. and Canada, the company has a lot further to go. Storage rival Tupperware (NYSE: TUP  ) gets fully 60% of its total revenue from emerging markets, and it too has seen impressive gains in South America as well as the Asia-Pacific region.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Many of the stocks contributing the most to the Dow's losses are the same stocks that have struggled for a while now. Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT  ) has fallen more than 2%, showing a complete lack of confidence among investors that the morning's economic data marks a turnaround in the foreseeable future. Following its earnings disappointment yesterday, a Wall Street analyst added insult to injury by downgrading the stock. Strength in the U.S. economy will help Caterpillar, but it really needs global expansion to resume in order to make the most of its profit opportunities.

Another big loser was Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT  ) , which lost 0.76% of its value today. One reason shares may have moved lower was the report that the U.S. trade deficit widened more than expected in May. Economists had expected the deficit to hit $40.1 billion, but it came in much higher at $45 billion. The report indicated that exports decayed, which reflects slow or stagnant growth in major markets such as China and Europe. While Caterpillar does derive a large portion of its revenue from the U.S., the company needs other economies to be performing well, or it will suffer.
